HERE’S a wheel-y sexy way to get about — a rickshaw with its own built-in POLE DANCER.

New Yorkers have been stunned to see the contraption being ridden around the streets of Manhattan at night.

The tantalising method of transport features an on-board stereo system and flashing lights, as well as an 8ft tall pole.

And as Andrew Katzander, the brains behind the operation pedals, a sexy dancer shimmies up and down, on top of her neon-blue “stage”.

The 45-year-old said: “We’re taking pole dancing to the streets.”

Well we shaw think it’s an idea with legs.

POLE dancing, superheroes and marching bands were the highlights of this year’s Ferndown Carnival.

Around 800 people took part in a spectacular procession through the town with floats including Polz Apart, which runs local pole dancing exercise classes and St Mary’s Church, who donned superheroes outfits.

The ban on bunting from the carnival failed to dampen spirits with more than 6,000 people turning up to watch.

Organisers said they were “delighted” with the £1,048 raised from the event, which will be split between 40 local charities.

The procession marched for around one mile through streets, finishing at St George V field off Church Road.

The fun continued on the field with stalls from organisations including the scouts and guides, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Cats Protection, The Alzheimers Society, Waggy Tails and Polz Apart.

And music lovers were thrilled by Robbie Williams tribute act Lee Pashley, who performed in the centre of the field, and the antics of Bournemouth Carnival Band, who dressed as Spidermen. Children had fun on quad bikes.

Gail Hunter-Warburton, one of the carnival’s organisers, said: “We had a fantastic day and we were extremely lucky with the weather.

“We didn’t get to have any bunting. We had a huge amount of people come up and say it was absolutely ridiculous.

“We had a few more walking entries this year. St Mary’s Church float stood out and the vicar was dressed as Superman.”

“There was such a crowd around the pole dancing. There were girls showing people how to pole dance and there were people up to the age of eighty having a go. It is really good exercise and not sleazy.

A last minute hitch meant there was no beer tent on the field this year but its absence made it more of a family event, added Gail.

“It didn’t mar the day and people seemed to stay longer. We might not even have one next year. It was so family-orientated,” she said.

Even for an artist famed for reinvention, it must have been a dizzying 10 months for Madonna since her last appearance in London at Wembley Stadium: the divorce, a new daughter, four-year-old Mercy from Malawi, and the death of Michael Jackson, originally scheduled to play the O2 three days after Madonna.

Her tribute last night made this spectacular performance — the launch of phase two of the 50-year-old’s European Sticky & Sweet tour — even more memorable.

Some fans who were also at Saturday’s 17,700-capacity show knew what was coming, but that didn’t reduce the impact when dancer Kento Mori, dressed like Jackson, moonwalked to Billie Jean and Wanna Be Startin’ Something.

“Let’s give it up to one of the greatest artists the world has ever known — Michael Jackson,” said Madonna, while a boyish Jackson appeared on the big screen. “Long live the king!”

Madonna couldn’t claim to possess the virtuosity of Jackson at his peak. But whatever her vocal limitations, this was a triumph of eye-popping production, exhausting choreography and her indomitable personality, as well as those fantastic songs.

The appearance of Kanye West and Britney Spears on video as well as a vintage Rolls-Royce on the ego ramp initially suggested a show big on gimmickry. Yet, while it was rehearsed with military precision, Madonna gave much more than you expect from a global superstar, even when tickets cost up to £175.

Nevertheless, the pounding musical interludes during the costume changes were actually better than plenty of concerts. So when Madonna rose from below the stage in a mini-skirt, skipping and then pole-dancing on a moving DJ booth during Into the Groove, the reaction was approaching hysteria. “Who says the English are reserved?” she bawled.

Despite her own raunchy history, Madonna’s rock-hard body was not too exposed, although she did manage to snog a look-alike of her Eighties self and a dancing monk grabbed her backside for a stipulated two seconds.

It was her fearsome pop power and the fantastic dancing that kept you transfixed though, whether on joyous renditions of Like a Prayer and La Isla Bonita, or the fantastic clubby finale of Give it 2 Me, during which Madonna and her dancers each wore one white glove in honour of Jackson.

“No one’s going to stop me — ever,” Madonna pointed out after a breathless two hours. Based on this performance, who can doubt her?

Every woman wants to know what it’s like to be an exotic dancer.

At least, that’s what one Mesa business is counting on.

Former exotic dancer Jennifer Bourland and Debbie Faaaliga opened PlayfulPole, a gym at Alma School and Guadalupe roads that teaches women to pole dance in a workout that mixes fitness and exotic Pole dancing. It’s a safe place for women to express themselves, they said.
The women opened the gym last month when Bourland was ready to retire from exotic dancing.

“I wanted to give women a place they could learn without having to go to the clubs I went to,” she said.
She touts pole dancing as an excellent workout for women. In 16 years as an exotic dancer, Bourland said she never went to the gym because her job kept her in such good shape.

The workout has become popular in recent years with a series of workout videos starring Carmen Electra Pole, and it’s showed up in family gyms across the country.

Bourland, a former food merchandiser, said she felt her self-confidence grow when she became an exotic stripper pole. She got into better shape and felt more beautiful and powerful, she said.

And her job helped her get a jump on becoming an entrepreneur. One of her patrons eventually agreed to invest in her studio, so she could teach classes rather than dance for a living.

The two parted ways after a few months, but Bourland had already made up her mind about becoming a business owner.

Following Michael Jackson’s death on Thursday, 750,000 people who bought tickets to see him perform at the O2 in London will never get the chance to experience the stunning visual and musical spectacle the singer had in store for them. But, according to reports, AEG Live, the promoter of the “This Is It” 50-date residency, recorded enough of Jackson’s rehearsal material to release at least one live CD/DVD.

Entertainment industry Web site The Wrap reports that Jackson’s final rehearsal at the Staples Center on Wednesday was recorded in multi-camera, high-definition video and multi-track audio. The recording could be released as the singer’s final album, according to unnamed sources close to the now scuttled tour, which was reportedly due to go around the globe following the O2 residency. The recordings were made as part of a deal cut by AEG Live with Jackson, which included plans to produce a live album and DVD of the singer performing his greatest hits. If the reports are true, the recording could help AEG Live recoup some of the estimated tens of millions of dollars it is expected to lose as a result of Jackson’s untimely death. A spokesperson for AEG Live could not be reached for comment at press time.

The Wrap reported that Jackson had failed to appear at “many” of the scheduled rehearsals over the past two months, but he did appear at the full run-through on Wednesday in anticipation of the July 13 kick-off of the London shows. The final rehearsal reportedly included dancers, musicians and aerial performers, as well as Jackson suspended from a crane at one point and a 3-D view of a “Thriller”-inspired haunted mansion.

On Monday (June 29), USA Today pulled back the curtain on the closely guarded rehearsals, describing an over-the-top Jackson extravaganza that was to feature floating orbs, a flaming bed, lots of pyrotechnics, 20-foot-tall puppets, giant spiders and Jackson breaking out all his signature dance moves.

“He was trying, and succeeding, in structuring the biggest, most spectacular live production ever seen,” said Johnny Caswell, co-owner of CenterStaging in Burbank, California, where Jackson worked on the show from late March to early June before shifting rehearsals to larger venues, according to the paper.

“By the time he left my facility, he had graduated through several studios and was on a soundstage taking up 10,000 square feet,” Caswell said. “They moved to The Forum, outgrew that and needed the height at Staples. The show was getting so damn big, they couldn’t finish it in time. That’s why they had to delay.” Caswell said reports that Jackson had delayed the start of the engagement due to health problems were “nonsense,” explaining that the ballooning size of the production caused the push back.

While it has been reported that Jackson had been taking a number of powerful prescription medications prior to his death and that he died following cardiac arrest, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has deferred determining his cause of death pending further toxicology tests.

Despite some suggestions that the frail singer with a history of medical problems might not have been strong enough to complete his first full-fledged tour in 12 years, according to USA Today, he was very engaged during Wednesday’s final rehearsal at the Staples Center, where he worked with a crew of more than 80 dancers, choreographers, band members and crew to polish the show.

Jackson began what would be his final rehearsal by putting on a headset and walking to an elevated platform to sing the song “Dangerous,” at first a cappella, then joined by his band.

“Misfits of Magic” founder Ed Alonzo, who worked on illusions for Britney Spears’ Circus tour, joined the Jackson show six weeks ago. He said he designed a number of stunning effects for the King of Pop, including a glowing glass sphere that would float around Jackson and then into the crowd during the opening song, 1982′s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.” A version of “Dirty Diana” was to feature a flaming bed with a pole-dancing aerialist “playing the part of the fire,” Alonzo said. After the fire woman pursued Jackson around the bed, she would tie him to the bed posts with gold rope, and a sheet of red fabric would spring up in front of him as he struggled in silhouette. When the sheet fell, it would be revealed that it was the woman struggling, not Jackson, and he would then materialize on a stage in the middle of the arena.

“It was an amazing show,” Alonzo said. “The thing was just days away from being perfected. It was incredible. Even though it was just a walk-through with the dancers, his moves were dead-on — the same Michael Jackson we (saw) through the years in music videos.” Alonzo said that while Jackson seemed underweight, he appeared to be in good health and was energetic during the rehearsal. Jackson’s manager, Frank DiLeo, told the Hollywood Reporter that after finishing the final run-through around midnight on Wednesday, Jackson was feeling good about the show. “He found me and said, ‘Frank, I am so happy. … This is really our time.’ He put his arm around me,” DiLeo said.

A Leyland lass is limbering up for a stage role alongside former soap stars.

Lorraine Hodgson, 38, will tread the boards at Preston’s Charter Theatre alongside ex-Emmerdale star Lisa Riley, who played Mandy Dingle, and lads’ mag favourite Abi Titmuss in The Naked Truth, a comedy about six unlikely women learning to pole-dance in a village hall.

Former Wellfield High School pupil Lorraine said she was looking forward to bringing the play to Preston – but a little worried about pole-dancing in front of her mum, Mary!

Lorraine said: “I’m always more nervous when my family come to watch.
“We had a six-week course of pole-dancing lessons in January which was hard work.

“I swear in the play as well and when my gran, who is 88, was coming to see it, I told my mum to phone her and warn her! But the play is all very tongue-in-cheek and it’s great for a girls’ night out.”

Lorraine first took to the stage while studying for a drama O-Level at Wellfield High.

From there she went on to do a performing arts course at Blackpool and The Fylde College, before winning a place at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where she now lives.

Since then, she has won small parts in TV shows including Eastenders, The Bill, Holby City and No Angels.

Lorraine reckons The Naked Truth, which also stars Hollyoaks actress Julie Buckfield, has been one of the most fun productions she has worked on.

She said: “Everybody has been brilliant. You could not ask for a better cast and we’re having an absolute ball.

“Lisa (Riley) is wonderful and Abi (Titmuss) is brilliant in it and also really lovely.”

Mum Mary, 65, still lives in Leyland.

A Perth-based stripper who claims to be Australia’s only male pole dance instructor is about to spread his wings.

Pole professional Adam Webb – who goes by the stage name “Corey Cruise” – has been running pole dance lessons at the Penthouse Night Club in Wellington Street for four years.

I’ve been teaching dance all my professional life,” Cruise says.

“As far as I know, there’s no other pole dancing men in Australia.

“I find it to be like ballet – the girl is the star and the guy is the pole.”

Cruise regularly straddles the pole himself, but says he’s only ever taught pole dancing to women.

He says he wants to teach blokes how to participate in the exercise fad that’s been the exclusive domain of women-only gymnasiums in recent years.

It wouldn’t be such a stretch, Cruise says, because he’s been teaching both sexes how to strip for years.

“We actually had a female model who wanted to learn to strip to give her boyfriend a surprise and get him to propose to her, and he did,” Cruise says.

“I’m actually thinking about turning that concept around and starting up ‘teach your hubby how to strip’ lessons.

“It’d be a great way of giving her a Valentines Day pressie without spending any money.”

Cruise says pole dancing, both male and female, has huge potential.

“The exercise and all that side of it has definitely taken it out of the strip clubs and into the mainstream,” he says.

“It has still got that rude connotation, but it’s no longer considered crude.

“There’s companies out there now petitioning to have pole dancing included in the Olympic Games.”

Cruise maintains the pastime suits gay and straight guys alike.

“I’m straight, but everyone thinks you’re gay because of what you do,” he says.

“It’s the old Billy Elliot thing – you’re considered a ‘poofter’ if you do it.

“It’s normally a girl’s world, but for a guy to step into it shows he’s comfortable with his sexuality.”

Cruise says he has even half-written a ballet inspired by the raunchy art form.

“I want to do for pole dancing what Tap Dogs did for Tap,” he says.

Jacinta Dudley studies advertising and marketing at Edith Cowan University by day, and pole dancing with Cruise by night.

“He’s a great teacher – very strong and he can catch,” Ms Dudley replies when asked why she chose to learn pole dancing from a man.

“I am pretty strong, but sometimes you get yourself in a tricky situation.

“Some of the routines are pretty hard and it’s good if someone can spot you the first few times.”
