Ferndown carnival fun pole dancing… but no bunting!

POLE dancing, superheroes and marching bands were the highlights of this year’s Ferndown Carnival.

Around 800 people took part in a spectacular procession through the town with floats including Polz Apart, which runs local pole dancing exercise classes and St Mary’s Church, who donned superheroes outfits.

The ban on bunting from the carnival failed to dampen spirits with more than 6,000 people turning up to watch.

Organisers said they were “delighted” with the £1,048 raised from the event, which will be split between 40 local charities.

The procession marched for around one mile through streets, finishing at St George V field off Church Road.

The fun continued on the field with stalls from organisations including the scouts and guides, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Cats Protection, The Alzheimers Society, Waggy Tails and Polz Apart.

And music lovers were thrilled by Robbie Williams tribute act Lee Pashley, who performed in the centre of the field, and the antics of Bournemouth Carnival Band, who dressed as Spidermen. Children had fun on quad bikes.

Gail Hunter-Warburton, one of the carnival’s organisers, said: “We had a fantastic day and we were extremely lucky with the weather.

“We didn’t get to have any bunting. We had a huge amount of people come up and say it was absolutely ridiculous.

“We had a few more walking entries this year. St Mary’s Church float stood out and the vicar was dressed as Superman.”

“There was such a crowd around the pole dancing. There were girls showing people how to pole dance and there were people up to the age of eighty having a go. It is really good exercise and not sleazy.

A last minute hitch meant there was no beer tent on the field this year but its absence made it more of a family event, added Gail.

“It didn’t mar the day and people seemed to stay longer. We might not even have one next year. It was so family-orientated,” she said.

Michael Jackson’s Last Tour Rehearsals Filmed For Possible Release,Show included floating orbs, aerial pole dancers.

Following Michael Jackson’s death on Thursday, 750,000 people who bought tickets to see him perform at the O2 in London will never get the chance to experience the stunning visual and musical spectacle the singer had in store for them. But, according to reports, AEG Live, the promoter of the “This Is It” 50-date residency, recorded enough of Jackson’s rehearsal material to release at least one live CD/DVD.

Entertainment industry Web site The Wrap reports that Jackson’s final rehearsal at the Staples Center on Wednesday was recorded in multi-camera, high-definition video and multi-track audio. The recording could be released as the singer’s final album, according to unnamed sources close to the now scuttled tour, which was reportedly due to go around the globe following the O2 residency. The recordings were made as part of a deal cut by AEG Live with Jackson, which included plans to produce a live album and DVD of the singer performing his greatest hits. If the reports are true, the recording could help AEG Live recoup some of the estimated tens of millions of dollars it is expected to lose as a result of Jackson’s untimely death. A spokesperson for AEG Live could not be reached for comment at press time.

The Wrap reported that Jackson had failed to appear at “many” of the scheduled rehearsals over the past two months, but he did appear at the full run-through on Wednesday in anticipation of the July 13 kick-off of the London shows. The final rehearsal reportedly included dancers, musicians and aerial performers, as well as Jackson suspended from a crane at one point and a 3-D view of a “Thriller”-inspired haunted mansion.

Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos

On Monday (June 29), USA Today pulled back the curtain on the closely guarded rehearsals, describing an over-the-top Jackson extravaganza that was to feature floating orbs, a flaming bed, lots of pyrotechnics, 20-foot-tall puppets, giant spiders and Jackson breaking out all his signature dance moves.

“He was trying, and succeeding, in structuring the biggest, most spectacular live production ever seen,” said Johnny Caswell, co-owner of CenterStaging in Burbank, California, where Jackson worked on the show from late March to early June before shifting rehearsals to larger venues, according to the paper.

“By the time he left my facility, he had graduated through several studios and was on a soundstage taking up 10,000 square feet,” Caswell said. “They moved to The Forum, outgrew that and needed the height at Staples. The show was getting so damn big, they couldn’t finish it in time. That’s why they had to delay.” Caswell said reports that Jackson had delayed the start of the engagement due to health problems were “nonsense,” explaining that the ballooning size of the production caused the push back.

The episode will show Brooke getting quickly at ease with the pole, as she displayed some raunchy moves pretty fast.

Brooke is the daughter of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.

Her new album ‘The Redemption’ will be releasing next week.

According to British tabloid The Sun, her record has described it as a “pop wonderland with up-beat, sexy dance rhythms and hip-hop influences, all overlaid with Brooke’s signature voice.”

Dancers take pole position on BGT

POLE dancers set pulses racing in millions of homes across the country as they took to the stage on television in Britain’s Got Talent.

The four athletic dancers from Stoke-on-Trent assisted gold-toothed rapper DJ Talent, watched by more than 14 million viewers, in the semi-final of the TV talent show.

Dressed in gold bikinis, the girls performed a range of tricks on the poles, while DJ Talent shouted out, “I say Britain, you say talent”.

Despite being championed by former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan, the bling-king DJ did not make the cut for the show’s final on Saturday night.

DJ Talent’s pole dancers – instructor Faye Chatterley, who runs Pole Fit, based in Longton, her students Sasha Kavaleva and Becca Edwards, and fellow instructor Deb Riley, of Pole Queens, also based at Longton – enjoyed their big moment.
Faye, aged 31, of Fenton, said: “Through people I know in the pole industry we were asked to come along to auditions. Then we found out we would be supporting DJ Talent.

Basic Pole Dance Moves

May 22nd, 2008 No Comments   Posted in News

The Walk Around — Stand tall, shoulders back. Hook arm around the pole and tip toe slowly and sexily round the pole.

The Bridge — From the Walk Around hold the pole with one hand, place legs around the pole. Still on tip toes, slowly drop backwards towards the floor, curving spine as far as it can go.

The Body Ripple — Holding pole with one hand, move shoulders into it. Stick butt out, ripple inwards until stomach is on the pole. Then pull out shoulders, bringing pelvis towards pole. Repeat several times so the movement flows.

The Straight Leg Grip — Jump onto pole holding with both hands. Grip pole between legs. Release one hand and lean away from pole, straighten one leg and spin around slowly in this position.

The Reverse Hold — Stand side-on to pole. Hold pole with both hands straight and arms above head. Bend legs and hook right leg around the pole so it rests in the crook of the knee. Cross both feet spin around slowly.
