New Mesa business uses pole dancing for fitness
Every woman wants to know what it’s like to be an exotic dancer.
At least, that’s what one Mesa business is counting on.
Former exotic dancer Jennifer Bourland and Debbie Faaaliga opened PlayfulPole, a gym at Alma School and Guadalupe roads that teaches women to pole dance in a workout that mixes fitness and exotic Pole dancing. It’s a safe place for women to express themselves, they said.
The women opened the gym last month when Bourland was ready to retire from exotic dancing.
“I wanted to give women a place they could learn without having to go to the clubs I went to,” she said.
She touts pole dancing as an excellent workout for women. In 16 years as an exotic dancer, Bourland said she never went to the gym because her job kept her in such good shape.
The workout has become popular in recent years with a series of workout videos starring Carmen Electra Pole, and it’s showed up in family gyms across the country.
Bourland, a former food merchandiser, said she felt her self-confidence grow when she became an exotic stripper pole. She got into better shape and felt more beautiful and powerful, she said.
And her job helped her get a jump on becoming an entrepreneur. One of her patrons eventually agreed to invest in her studio, so she could teach classes rather than dance for a living.
The two parted ways after a few months, but Bourland had already made up her mind about becoming a business owner.
‘I pole danced for Simon Cowell’ says Zoe Ball
Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball has confessed that she once performed a raunchy pole dance in front of X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

The 38-year old told Celebs on Sunday that she was partying at Stringfellows when she decided to take to the stage to strut her stuff.
She explained: “My mate and I got a bit drunk – in my former life – and ended up there trying to pole dance.
“This man came up to us and said, “Um, can you get down please? But before you do, can this man take your picture?”
“It was Peter Stringfellow and he was sat at a table with Simon and loads of really big bods from TV.”
Zoe also revealed that Cowell sent over a bottle of champagne but she was unsure whether this was because he liked her dancing.
She confessed: “We said hello, then a few minutes later Simon sent a bottle of champagne over to us.”
“I think it was to stop me from dancing ever again, rather than congratulate me.”

SEXY Abi Titmuss reckons she lives the life of a nun – despite learning to be POLE DANCER.
The glamour girl starred in a homemade sex tape with TV presenter John Leslie and fronted a porn channel but says she has put her days as a sex-crazed celebrity behind her.
Now blonde Abi says her new acting career has led to a quieter life.
But that has not stopped her learning a new habit – pole dancing – for her latest role as a raunchy exercise teacher in Glasgow stage show The Naked Truth.
But fans hoping to see Abi strip will be left disappointed.
She confessed to a radio station: “I am closer to a nun than you would think actually, these days anyway.”
Abi, 33, who plays alongside ex-Emmerdale star Lisa Riley in the show- said she had a removable dance pole fitted in her home to train for the role.
She added: “I play Gabby who is the teacher of this dance pole class. The play centres around me and the five women in my class and you watch them struggle hilariously with pole-dancing.”

Michael Jackson’s Last Tour Rehearsals Filmed For Possible Release,Show included floating orbs, aerial pole dancers.
Following Michael Jackson’s death on Thursday, 750,000 people who bought tickets to see him perform at the O2 in London will never get the chance to experience the stunning visual and musical spectacle the singer had in store for them. But, according to reports, AEG Live, the promoter of the “This Is It” 50-date residency, recorded enough of Jackson’s rehearsal material to release at least one live CD/DVD.
Entertainment industry Web site The Wrap reports that Jackson’s final rehearsal at the Staples Center on Wednesday was recorded in multi-camera, high-definition video and multi-track audio. The recording could be released as the singer’s final album, according to unnamed sources close to the now scuttled tour, which was reportedly due to go around the globe following the O2 residency. The recordings were made as part of a deal cut by AEG Live with Jackson, which included plans to produce a live album and DVD of the singer performing his greatest hits. If the reports are true, the recording could help AEG Live recoup some of the estimated tens of millions of dollars it is expected to lose as a result of Jackson’s untimely death. A spokesperson for AEG Live could not be reached for comment at press time.
The Wrap reported that Jackson had failed to appear at “many” of the scheduled rehearsals over the past two months, but he did appear at the full run-through on Wednesday in anticipation of the July 13 kick-off of the London shows. The final rehearsal reportedly included dancers, musicians and aerial performers, as well as Jackson suspended from a crane at one point and a 3-D view of a “Thriller”-inspired haunted mansion.
On Monday (June 29), USA Today pulled back the curtain on the closely guarded rehearsals, describing an over-the-top Jackson extravaganza that was to feature floating orbs, a flaming bed, lots of pyrotechnics, 20-foot-tall puppets, giant spiders and Jackson breaking out all his signature dance moves.
“He was trying, and succeeding, in structuring the biggest, most spectacular live production ever seen,” said Johnny Caswell, co-owner of CenterStaging in Burbank, California, where Jackson worked on the show from late March to early June before shifting rehearsals to larger venues, according to the paper.
“By the time he left my facility, he had graduated through several studios and was on a soundstage taking up 10,000 square feet,” Caswell said. “They moved to The Forum, outgrew that and needed the height at Staples. The show was getting so damn big, they couldn’t finish it in time. That’s why they had to delay.” Caswell said reports that Jackson had delayed the start of the engagement due to health problems were “nonsense,” explaining that the ballooning size of the production caused the push back.
Britney Spears’ stripper pole axed by hotel

Britney Spears cancelled a booking for a top Dublin hotel because they refused to co-operate with her demands for a stripper pole, it has emerged.
The 27-year-old Womanizer star requested that an exclusive hotel on the Dublin southside install a steel pole during her brief stay in the city for her sell-out Circus tour.
But when the venue declined, her minders promptly booked into the apparently more accommodating Four Seasons Hotel instead.
A source revealed the mum-of-two is a keen pole dancer, as it apparently helps her keep in shape.
The source said: “She adores working out on a pole as it helps her keep toned.
“She has had to work very hard to squeeze back into those tiny stage costumes and she knows she has to stay on top of her regime. Britney can’t let her weight creep back up as this is the most important tour of her career and she has to stay in peak physical condition.”
Pole dancing – beyond the sleaze

Pole dancing has evolved from its sleazy striptease reputation to a legitimate form of exercise that is gaining in popularity worldwide. In addition to the many private pole dancing studios, more and more health clubs and fitness centers are offering pole dancing classes as a creative form of exercise that also caters to the “sensual side.”
There are several well-known pole dancing studios in the Bay Area including Catherine Rose’s Slinky Productions which offers both private and group instruction and actress Sheila Kelley’s S Factor with multiple locations nationwide.
Where did it all begin? Probably hundreds – perhaps thousands – of years ago as some form of exotic dance. Most sources believe the earliest “recorded” pole dance was performed by Belle Jangles in 1968 at Mugwumps strip club in Oregon. Recorded by whom? Nobody seems to know. In fact, nobody seems to know anything about Belle Jangles or Mugwumps either, yet they have become part of the folklore surrounding the origins of pole dancing and, no doubt, contribute to its colorful image.
According to UK-based Polestars, the world’s largest independent pole dancing fitness school, pole dancing burns 400 calories an hour. That, too, might be dubious depending on the intensity of the workout. Still, there is no questions that pole dancing is an excellent form of progressive exercise that can present a challenging workout for persons of every fitness level.
The U.S. Pole Dancing Federation (USPDF) was founded in 2008 “to create a network for pole dancers and studio owners in the US…to provide a structured standard in the industry…to serve as a source to exchange idesas, and to give feedback among pole dance instructors.” The USPDF emphasizes that “pole dancing is not stripping. This misconception prevents pole dancing from becoming something every woman should be able to enjoy. Pole dancing is a sensual athletic dance form that demands coordination, flexibility and physical strength.”
The inaugural USPDF National Pole Dance Championships were held at Bleecker Street Theater in New York City this past March 15th where almost 300 enthusiastic pole fans from all over the US attended the show to watch the nation’s elite pole dancers live on stage. The winner – and “Miss USPDF 2009” – was Jenyne Butterfly.
What’s next? The USPDF “Rock the Pole” exhibition and showcase will take place on June 26 in Redlands, California, and will feature Sarah Cretul aka “Miss Trixter,” “Miss Sexy” Alethia Austin, and USPDF co-founder Wendy Traskos. Readers can refer to antixfitness.com for more information.

Britney Spears goes topless for pole dance
Oops! Britney Spears shocks again; this time unintentionally. The ‘Toxic’ singer is creating headlines for her topless pole dance.
With nothing just tattoos of rose petals covering her breasts, Britney leaves little to imagination as she gyrates around a strippers’ pole while shooting the video of her 2007 hit ‘Gimme More’.
Understandably, the topless act was deemed too hot for viewers and axed from the video but its stills have now been leaked to the tabloid press. The snaps show a brunette Britney dancing topless around a pole, smiling and waving to the camera. Incidentally, the shoot took place at the time of her public breakdown two years back.
27-year-old Britney is presently performing a string of acclaimed gigs at London’s 02 as part of her Circus tour, before moving on to Manchester and Dublin.
She is also learnt to be planning a series of sexy parties across London.
MTV.co.uk quotes a source as saying: “It’s going to be crazy. Britney wanted to throw parties people will be talking about for years. I promise you, you’ve never seen anything so explicit in your life.”
Brooke Hogan polishing pole-dancing skills
Brooke Hogan can certainly earn big bucks for a talent other than singing-pole dancing.

In an episode of her reality show ‘Brooke Knows Best’, the singer, her mother Linda and a pal have been shown while polishing their pole dancing skills.
The episode will show Brooke getting quickly at ease with the pole, as she displayed some raunchy moves pretty fast.
Brooke is the daughter of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.
Her new album ‘The Redemption’ will be releasing next week.
According to British tabloid The Sun, her record has described it as a “pop wonderland with up-beat, sexy dance rhythms and hip-hop influences, all overlaid with Brooke’s signature voice.”
